Octopath Traveler II, Square Enix, 2023.

Number of points scored: 49

I completely missed the first installment of Octopath Traveler. The initial excitement quickly turned into fatigue with the graphic style and a bland plot in the long run. Yes, Octopath Traveler was simply uninteresting. Fortunately, you can't say that about the sequel. The game, which was developed by Team Asano, addressed the issues of the previous installment, making it one of the top RPG games of the past year (and beyond) for me.

Octopath Traveler II continues to use the HD-2D graphics engine, but it squeezes more out of it than its predecessor. This is connected to the expansive game world, where we can navigate through vast oceans. The combat system remains unchanged, but the pace of gameplay and storytelling has been refined, which has also improved and handles the integration of the stories of eight different characters better. If someone is looking for a traditional JRPG experience with turn-based combat and pixel art graphics, they will find it here.

He hasn't yet written a text that he would be 100% satisfied with. He started his adventure with games at the age of 3, when he managed to convince his father to buy a C64 computer. The love for electronic entertainment awakened by Flimbo's Quest blossomed during the first adventures with Heroes of Might & Magic, reaching its peak after purchasing the first PlayStation. As he grew older, he had more encounters with Nintendo portable consoles, and also returned to the PC as an additional gaming platform. He collects games and is a fan of emulation.
