Shadow of the Colossus, Sony Interactive Entertainment, 2018
  1. Developers: Sony Interactive Entertainment
  2. Platforms: PS2, PS3, PS4
  3. Release date: October 14, 2005 / February 6, 2018 (remake)

Even after many years, Shadow of the Colossus remains an exceptional game that continues to be viewed with well-deserved admiration. Not many games can boast such a mysterious and absorbing atmosphere. In addition, there's a feeling of almost total loneliness, although we are never truly alone – our protagonist is accompanied by a loyal horse named Agro. Together they set off on a dangerous journey to reverse the irreversible. With every step taken toward the goal, one can feel that nothing good will come out of it.

Shadow of the Colossus would not be so phenomenal if it weren't for the open world we can travel through during the adventure. It's a forbidden land separated from the rest of the game universe by natural barriers. Our task is to eliminate the titular colossi, which we are led to by beams of light. At any moment, however, we can immerse ourselves in exploring the intriguing ruins of a forgotten civilization. And at the same time, give yourself more opportunities by finding items that increase endurance. A few years ago, this immense freedom captivated us in Zelda, now it is done by its latest installment as well as Elden Ring. But Fumito Ueda and his team showed the industry a new direction.
