Bastila Shan (Knights of the Old Republic). The best heroines before Lara Croft
Table of Contents
- Debuted: 2003
- Key games: Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
- What distinguishes her from other protagonists: Battle meditation and irresistible calm
The first Knights of the Old Republic became legendary mainly due to the great story and the character of Revan, escaping the shackles of another bland protagonist. And a combat system that remains quite enjoyable even after all these years. KotOR has aged like fine wine. Still, a good remake wouldn't hurt – we can't get enough of Star Wars in this version.
Especially with such companions at our side. Bastila Shan was an eminently gifted Jedi. She possessed the extremely rare ability of battle meditation, which could bring advantage to entire armies or fleets during battles. Just before the events sown in the game, she headed the search party tracing Darth Revan. She found him and, taking advantage of Malak's serious injury, kept him alive and brought him to the council. There, it was decided that the memory of the former dark lord of the Sith should be altered. Bastila's job was to keep an eye on him as he regained control of the Force.
Soon thereafter, Revan (in the canonical version) consciously sided with the light, and Bastila was in turn recruited by Malak. Her battle meditation ability almost ensured victory of the Sith. At the last moment, however, Revan arrived at Bastila. The Force-sensitive warriors fought each other, but both could not resist a feeling that became stronger than the dark side. Bastila used battle meditation to aid the forces of the Jedi and the Republic, and then they escaped from Malak's ship together. Sentimental and cliché? Perhaps. But it's still one of the best love stories in the entire Star Wars franchise.
Before the events of Knights of the Old Republic 2, Visas Marr belonged to the Sith Order. Its master was Darth Nihilus. After entering the player's ship, however, she may gradually change her point of view. Though Miralukan proves extremely stubborn, the Jedi Exile is able to convert her to the light side and begin training Marr to become a Jedi.
Speaking of the Exile – she was one of the most interesting and powerful heroins that appeared in games before 2000. The canonical Meetra Surik is a powerful Jedi warrior, defeating Darth Nihilus, Darth Sion and Darth Traya, and then going to the Unknown Regions following the main character of the previous game – Revan.
