Freelancer: Nomad Legacy is a mod for Freelancer, created by Jeider.

Description (in author’s own words):

For more than 15 years, a bunch of obsessed fans (myself first and foremost) have been making our own Freelancer sequel. And we've finally finished it! So if you're in the mood to play something fun, with a story and epic moments (which this mod has in spades), then head over to our website and give it a go.

Freelancer on steroids, updated.

The project was based on the crazy idea that "Microsoft axed Chris Roberts' Freelancer" (although that's not entirely true). And then things just snowballed from there. So, here's the list of in-game goodies:

1. A full-fledged new game world, built on different principles. Designed so you can not just fly around, but also explore, with a balance between "economic hubs" and "the periphery." All systems are new, and the lore has been tweaked/overhauled. So, the game world here is roughly like GTA IV vs. GTA III. Or GTA V vs. San Andreas. It's kind of the same, but different.
2. An upgraded progression system where you can and should swap out engines and generators. All equipment changes aren't just for show — they genuinely affect gameplay and balance. Different engine variants aren't just different colors; they have different perks depending on class, faction, etc. So, the game offers a huge spectrum of possibilities for tuning your ride.
3. Enhanced visuals and restored features with animated ship elements. Most ships have animations, which, of course, don't affect gameplay (hitboxes don't even change), but it looks cool and lets you feel your ship. Kusari's ships can even fold their fins! We've added all possible gun animations and more. Bases are also animated, and this is part of the gameplay in missions.
4. Re-drawn graphics for almost everything in roughly 2K HD quality. If you've heard of Freelancer HD, it was based on the first texture pack from my mod. But currently, I've made my own textures even better (Freelancer HD mod uses 1K, mine are 2K). Some stuff I drew personally to get really crisp textures that don't even need bump maps. Some stuff was re-drawn using neural networks, especially blurry things like planets, nebulae, etc. Of course, I then integrated and polished it all by hand. No dumb AI slop.
5. Different bases, big bases, MEGABASES. A huge number of various stations for every taste and color. Freelancer sometimes struggles to run them smoothly. But it's beautiful! And how can you have an epic mission without an equally epic mega-base in the background?
6. All in-game content is described and integrated into the game. NPCs have been re-voiced using neural networks. I haven't yet taken the plunge to fully re-record them (I only did that for the Russian version), but the NPCs are now capable of voicing all base and station names, all commodities, and all factions. Every station, ship, and other element has a description. These are written in Russian and translated into English via DeepSeek. So, all content is well-thought-out and accurate; neural networks merely helped me improve the work, the sheer volume of which would have been impossible otherwise. I only used neural networks to describe lifeless planets. I simply don't have that much imagination :-) In any case, I made sure all the most important texts are meaningful. And neural tools helped us speed up the work.
7. A thoughtful story campaign with unique gameplay. The game's story is indirectly connected to the original. The plot follows the adventures of a non-Trent, a namesake. Set about 50 years after the original events.
8. Why a Trent-not-Trent? Well, I needed to reset progress to zero without turning the game into "Mass Effect 2." But I also couldn't change the player's face, and a lot of assets are tied to the name "Trent." However, we managed to work this into the story in a cool way!
9. The campaign consists of 13 missions — that's the original limit. During the story, you'll participate in a huge number of challenges. Not just "go pew-pew and blow up these generators." Destroy cruisers by targeting their weak points. Intercept enemy torpedoes. Take part in stealth missions. Infiltrate dangerous ancient alien structures. And maybe you'll have to fight some ancient evil?
10. All missions have cutscenes. I won't say they're amazing, but at least they won't make your eyes bleed. Plus, for example, I can't play games with cutscenes made of static pictures. I don't have pictures in my cutscenes. They're definitely better than in Serious Sam 4. So they add to the atmosphere without the cringe!
11. Gameplay in the campaign is built on all modern principles. It's an entertaining action movie that pushes the player forward. Although you'll have to sweat a bit in the stealth missions :-) But I'm sure you'll manage!

Instructions:

1. Extract the archive to the main game folder.

2. Make sure DirectPlay is activated. If not, you can do so by running DirectPlay_Activate.

3. Run RUN_english.exe.

If the launcher works but freezes or is empty, it means that Windows does not have a WebView component called Microsoft Edge WebView2. You need to download it from the Microsoft website. For example: https://developer.microsoft.com/ru-ru/microsoft-edge/webview2/
