Slight edit. If you are very unfortunate a lightning from the Ion Storm could kill your vital engineers.

Survive long enough. Loose to many buildings and you'll fail. You'll get punished for failing to rescue the villages. If it seems like nothign is processing (could happen rarely) start searching for village attack team left overs and kill them.
