In contrast to its predecessor, War in the West is set on the Western Front of World War II, beginning in July 1943 and the Allied invasion on Sicily and Italy, following with the battles in France, and ending with the assault on Germany in August 1945.

The game was created as a result of cooperation between the independent studio, Unicube, and Team 17, the company famous for the Worms series. The player becomes a leader of a group of survivors hiding in a gloomy underground shelter after a nuclear catastrophe. The game begins when the first bombs are about to fall. We have a limited amount of time to gather supplies for the first weeks of living underground.

The game breaks with the traditional sourcing scheme, focusing only on the cash gained for killing enemy units. A peculiar innovation is also the introduction of random special cards, capable of reversing the fate of more than one skirmish.

Painters Guild offers many story campaigns, depicting life of famous artists, like Leonardo da Vinci or Andrea del Verrocchio.

In relation to the original, apart from the conquered resolution, we get two completely new tasks, supplementing the basic game and the official add-on. A number of minor fixes and improvements in the mechanics of the game have not been forgotten either.
