Similarly to the original, the gameplay boils down to a struggle between two persons competing for the title of the owner of the most profitable port in the eponymous French city. The game is turn-based and involves proper infrastructure management, buying and selling buildings, as well as trading supplies.

The protagonist is a red-bearded Viking called Sigurd, whose biggest dream is to enter Valhalla. The story of Die With Glory is non-linear to a large extent, which means the way the hero achieves his goal is largely dependent on the player’s decisions. Gameplay-wise, the title combines platforming elements with adventure and strategy.
