Darkest Dungeon 2, Red Hook Studios, 2023.

Number of points scored: 39

Darkest Dungeon quickly proved to be another independent hit upon its debut. The game had a distinctive artistic layer, unconventional inspirations from Cthulhu mythology, and a high level of difficulty combined with an extensive character development and progression system. The Red Hook team was able to begin working on a sequel thanks to the success of this game, which initially surprised the fans after the first announcements. The exploration of dungeons known from the first installment was abandoned in favor of... traveling by carriage.

There was relatively little buzz about this game due to its early access debut on the Epic Games Store, which is largely overlooked by the PC gaming community. Only the release of the finished version attracted many players. In many cases, the initial aversion quickly transformed into admiration, as Darkest Dungeon 2 expands on the concepts from the previous installment by introducing new character classes, items, and abilities. Even though I didn't have the chance to play it myself, most of our editors chose to nominate and reward this game.
