You Can Now Order New DnD Manuals. See if One DnD Is Really Worth Your Money
As of yesterday, we can order the latest DnD manuals and we already know what to expect from them.
Dungeons and Dragons is marking the 50th anniversary of its first edition this year. On this occasion, Wizards of the Coast announced the premiere of the latest Player's Handbook. This is part of a major update called One DnD, which changes the existing rules of the 5th game edition.
Yesterday, the official Wizards of the Coast channel published an interview with the game's lead designers: Jeremy Crawford and Chris Perkins, in which you can learn more about the latest PHB.
The new rules have been tested by players for a long time and are now being incorporated into the full-fledged manual. According to Wizards, the main goal of the changes is to simplify the current 5e rules to make the game easier to understand, quicker to learn, and to focus on the more entertaining aspects of D&D.
Players who are currently participating in the 5e campaign don't need to worry. According to Crawford, the most recent guide will work with the principles of the 5th edition, so there will be no need to abandon ongoing games if you want to test the new features included in it.
There will also be rules from the books Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything and Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, so we won't have to constantly switch between volumes.
Classes, races, and perks
The handbook will include 12 classes we already know, and each of them will receive 4 subclasses; including three completely new ones:
- Circle of the Sea Druid
- Bard Dance College
- Path of the World Tree Barbarian
We will also permanently see completely improved psionic subclasses from Tasha: Soulknife Rogue, Psiwarrior Fighter, and Abberant Sorcerrer. Other subclasses will undergo "significant changes," such as the Archfey Patron Warlock or Beastmaster Ranger, making them appear as entirely new subclasses due to the amount of modifications.
The biggest change will be the disappearance of racial modifiers, whose impact on statistics will be replaced by origin, which will also give us one starting perk. "Half" races, like half-orc or half-elf, will be removed; instead, Goliath, Aasimar, and Orc will become fully-fledged default options.
The most praised improvement in playtests is Weapon Mastery. It allows for adding an additional special skill to the weapon used for people with this perk. Thanks to it, non-magical classes will be able to show off a greater number of mechanical options.
Pre-orders now available
We can now pre-order all three handbooks. You can purchase it in digital, physical, or a bundle of both versions on the DnD Beyond website or in some local board game and TTRPG stores.
The Player's Handbook will be available for direct release on September 17th. And the Game Master's Guide will be available on November 12. The Monster Manual won't be available until February 18, 2025.
