- 2K Games has quietly released a new mobile game set in the universe of XCOM;
- XCOM Legends is a free game with microtransactions;
- At the moment the title is available only in selected countries.
Without prior announcement and to everyone's surprise, 2K Games released a new title from the XCOM series. We're talking about the mobile game titled XCOM Legends, available on Google Play. Unfortunately, so far we can download it only in selected countries.
XCOM Legends was created by a studio unknown to most players, Iridium Starfish, which, as reported by Eurogamer, is based in California and is directly connected with Take-Two. When asked about the game's launch, the company commented as follows:
"We are constantly exploring and testing new experiences to offer our fans the best entertainment and value. Iridium Starfish has soft-launched XCOM Legends in limited territories, but we have no further information to share at this time."
The first mention of the game appeared almost a year ago. One of the users on Reddit noticed an advertisement for XCOM Legends on Facebook. At the time, it was assumed that we were dealing with a developer who stole models and material from the XCOM series to create his own game.
At first glance, the gameplay looks like a mix of tactical skirmishes with a typical mobile RPG in the vein of Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes (collecting rare materials, upgrading our units, 5-on-5 battles).
