Xbox Series X/S are the Fastest-selling Consoles in Microsoft's History
Xbox Series X/S consoles have been selling very well since their launch last year, with an estimated 6.5 million units purchased to date.
Of all the Xbox consoles to date, the latest generation is doing the best. Niko Partners estimates that the Xbox Series S and X have shipped more than 6.5 million units. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, commenting on the company's financial results for the last quarter, stated that no other console of the company has sold so well in a similar period of time. He also reported that Xbox Game Pass users test about 40% more games and spend 50% more time playing them than non-subscribers.
Daniel Ahmad, an analyst at Niko Partners, compares the sales results of the latest consoles with previous models. His data shows that 6.5 million units of Series X/S, 5.7 million units of Xbox One and 5 million units of Xbox 360 were purchased in a similar time period after launch. However, it's important to remember that the Xbox 360 simply sold out at one point, and in the long run, it was brought into the homes of more gamers than the Xbox One. The latest consoles also had their fair share of availability issues, but still managed to achieve incredible sales figures, which only highlights the scale of their popularity.
Just as interestingly, in the last quarter Microsoft's overall gaming revenue was up 11%, or $357 million. Profits from game sales alone were down 4%, but the new consoles helped boost hardware revenue, with an increase of 172%.
Microsoft is doing really well. Sony consoles are also selling well, so the competition is fierce.
