Xbox Series X Has Heat Issues? True or Not, Rumors Persist

Information that has appeared in the impressions of some of the influencers testing Xbox Series X suggests that Microsoft's platform has a problem with the amount of heat it generates.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. According to some rumors, the Xbox Series X console has problems with the amount of heat it generates;
  2. Not everyone who has had the opportunity to test Microsoft's device agrees with these reports. Some people indicate that it's normal for gaming hardware to heat up;
  3. The Redmond giant has already had problems with console overheating in the past.

Rumors on the web suggest that the Xbox Series X console is heating up heavily. The hardware is said to be producing a lot of heat, even at rest. The information was published, among others, on Twitter, in a post of the user known as The Red Dragon. Its original source is to be the influencers, who received the device for testing from Microsoft.

The rumor has been partially denied by Tom Warren, Senior Editor of The Verge, who, however, due to the NDA, could not provide any details.

Austin Evans, a well-known YouTuber who specializes in hardware, also threw in his three cents. When asked by one of the users, he replied that he himself did not encounter any problems, but he did not yet test the console's cooling system.

Internet user reactions to this information are vastly differently. Some people indicate that every gaming hardware generates heat, and Xbox Series X has really powerful components, which must have its consequences.

"If you understand the design of the console and the reality of cooling over 15 billion transistors given that design then you already assumed the Series X would run warmer than the One X. Go back and watch the videos from Digital Foundry when they went to Microsoft to preview the hardware layout and you'll see the design from top to bottom took heat concerns into consideration. It's the reality of computing in 2020. It's telling that days after folks were describing how quiet the Series X is people want to create a controversy in bad faith out of nothing based on a "report" from a journalist that doesn't know the first thing about computer hardware (but plenty about hyperbole)," writes Stopkillingmeplz.

Other users point out that it wouldn't be the first time a large company makes a mistake when designing a device. Microsoft itself has such a card in its history - some Xbox 360 owners still remember problems with the so-called RROD (a.k.a. Red Ring of Death), a failure that quite often troubled the first models of seventh-generation console.

"To be fair Microsoft allowed millions of people to touch a console with heat problems," writes DieHardXmas.
