Xbox Series S Will Run Backwards Compatible Games in Xbox One S Quality
Xbox Series S has been officially announced as Microsoft's most affordable console. The lower price, however, is associated with some compromises. One of them is the lack of support for the graphical improvements found in games on Xbox One X.
- The Xbox Series S will run games from XOne generation in Xbox One S quality, although with minor graphic enhancements, HDR and faster loading times.
Microsoft's new consoles are due to debut on November 10. The stronger Xbox Series X, as well as its poorer version, Series S, will hit the stores (although there is also a rumor about Xbox Series V). The weaker device is to launch all the titles for suitable for its bigger brother. Of course, in reduced resolution of 1440p and "only" 60 fps. It will be fully backwards compatible, although the games XOne generation are not supposed to have the improvements characteristic of the One X model.
GameSpew, whose news is the source of this message, asked Microsoft about the quality of older games on Xbox Series S and received the following answer:
“Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next generation console and play next generation games at 1440P at 60fps. To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times and Auto HDR.”
It follows that the games from previous generation will run as they were running on the Xbox One S console. Of course, some improvements will be made - better texture filtering, faster level loading and HDR. These are the benefits that come with next-gen technology, because it should be remembered that the "radio" (as some memes call the device) also has a fast NVMe drive and the same CPU as the more powerful Xbox Series X.
I recommend a video showing many aspects of the new S Series console, including Gears 5 running at 120 fps:
