X-Com: UFO Defense successor Phoenix Point showed off in the first gameplay video
So far, we've only seen pictures from Phoenix Point, the upcoming tactical strategy from X-Com: UFO Defense creator Julian Gollop. Now, you can watch the first gameplay video, prepared for a Fig crowdfunding campaign.
The first gameplay footage from Phoenix Point – the upcoming tactical strategy game designed by Julian Gollop, the creator of the original X-Com: UFO Defense, and his team at Snapshot Games – has emerged, as a crowdfunding campaign went live on Fig. The campaign, whose base goal is set at $500, is currently available only to people who have previously made a pledge on Fig, as reported by a NeoGAF user; if you’re one of them, check your email. If not, here you can watch the game in action as well as hear Julian Gollop himself explain the story and some gameplay mechanics:
At its core Phoenix Point is very similar to the XCOM series, but it also has some unique features. The game is set in a dystopian vision of the future, in which Earth has been swarmed by human-animal mutants and the remnants of mankind reside in secluded havens. While we control the sky and they rule the seas, the big prize at stake is the land.
Some of the mutants are as high as a multi-storey building, and bringing them down will require combination of tactics and heavy gear. However, it isn’t simply humans versus monsters. Instead of uniting themselves against a common enemy, people are divided into rivaling factions, which control different resources. Your job as the leader of the Phoenix organization, set up to deal with the alien threat, is to make alliances or deals with other groups, or even wage wars against them.
Phoenix Point is being designed specifically for PC. Before the game hits this platform we must wait at least until the second half of 2018
