Bringing good news for World of Warcraft fans, who are turning their noses up at the direction Blizzard's MMORPG is heading, while recalling with nostalgia the first years of its presence on the market. Well, it turns out that Chris Metzen - one of the fathers of WoW, who late last year returned to the ranks of the company - has a much larger role in the team than was assumed.
Youtuber known as Taliesin - together with his partner who runs the popular channel Taliesin & Evitel - citing information received independently from several developers working on World of Warcraft, reports that Metzen is "creating the future of WoW" in partnership with Steve Danuser (chief narrative director) and Ion Hazzikostas (chief game director). The men are said to be spending a lot of time together, and Metzen's role during these meetings is reportedly not limited to being a "story consultant." The fragment in question begins at 9:47 of the video below.
This is significant because it is Chris Metzen who is responsible for the stories told in the basic version of WoW and in the first five DLCs - including Warlords of Draenor. So fans can be optimistic and hope that Metzen's influence will ensure that Blizzard does not serve us another poor story like the one from Shadowlands.
It is worth noting that Taliesin's reports correspond with a recent tweet by Blizzard CEO Mike Ybarra (below). In early August, he wrote that Chris Metzen and Holly Longdale - executive producer of WoW - will share "exciting news" with the community at this year's BlizzCon, which will take place on November 3 and 4. Fans have begun to speculate that it's about the announcement of the tenth expansion for World of Warcraft - one that would be overseen by Metzen himself.
