WoW Surprises Fans with Expensive Mount, but Players Still Flock to Buy the Dinosaur
Trader's Gilded Brutosaur is quite an expense for World of Warcraft fans. Not that this will discourage players who purchase WoW Tokens in large numbers to buy a new mount.
Blizzard announced a spectacular celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Warcraft series and the 20th anniversary of WoW's premiere. Apparently this includes one very expensive mount in World of Warcraft.
90 bucks for a mount
The Trader's Gilded Brutosaur is a unique mount released for the 30th anniversary of Warcraft. It is "decorated with a harness featuring the 20th anniversary motif and jewels symbolizing WoW expansions."
This alone would suggest that it will not be an expensive purchase, and moreover, it is, nomen omen, just a gilded version of another mount. The Mighty Caravan Brutosaur was available during Battle for Azeroth, enabling us to not only carry two extra passengers, but also provide remote access to the auction house and mailbox. The new steed also offers these features.
Nonetheless, the price surprised even the experienced veterans of Azeroth. The Gilded Trader Brutosaur costs 78 Euro/90 USD in the Battle.net shop. For comparison: even the pack of 8 mounts for the 30th anniversary of Warcraft costs "only" 30 euros.
Of course, someone might ask how many people would decide to make such an expensive purchase of virtual property. As indicated by more than one user of Reddit (via Jez Corden on X), the answer apparently is: quite a lot. So much so that – as players laugh – buyers funded another 10 expansions and "two StarCraft 2s ".
WoW Tokens sold out
The appearance of a new Brutosaur also had another effect. Since the release of the new mount, the gold price of the WoW Token, a token used to purchase items in World of Warcraft, has increased significantly.
In the Battle.net store it still costs 20 euros, but many players prefer to buy tokens in the auction house, spending gold earned in-game. Apparently, many of them decided to acquire the Gilded Trader's Brutosaur via this method, because since yesterday the price of the WoW Token in Europe has increased from around 285 thousand gold pieces to 432 thousand, and subsequent offers in the auction house are disappearing almost immediately.
This increase is not only the result of the attractiveness of the mount for players, but also its price. As we mentioned, one WoW Token is equivalent to 20 euros, so buyers need four to purchase the new Brutosaur. As a result, the demand for tokens has significantly increased.
In theory, the game blocks the purchase of items after acquiring one, but with the rapidly rising price of WoW Token, even a minute difference means a more expensive purchase. That's why players use a script in the game to bypass this restriction (via Wowhead).
What's funny is that even in this context, the new mount is still cheaper than the original Brutosaur. The price of 4 WoW Tokens has not yet exceeded half a thousand pieces of gold, so the total cost of Trader's Gilded Brutosaur in gold is less than 2 million coins. The Mighty Caravan Brutosaur, on the other hand, costed 5 million pieces of gold.
