WoW - Blizzard will Reduce Number of Servers
Blizzard Entertainment has announced that it plans to shut down some World of Warcraft servers. Populations of sparsely populated realms will be combined to reach an appropriate level before the launch of Shadowlands.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Blizzard plans to merge the less populated World of Warcraft servers;
- The aim of the change is to ensure a suitable population before the release of the next expansion - so that players can use the prepared team content without any obstacles;
- The servers will be merged during weekly technical breaks.
Blizzard Entertainment has announced that it intends to shut down some of the less populated servers of the popular MMO game World of Warcraft. Their populations will be combined so that the number of players will be high enough before the launch of the next add-on, Shadowlands. This will ensure that users should have no problem finding a team for group activities.
"World of Warcraft is best when you have a community of other players around you, and while numerous ways to participate in cross-realm play have been added to the game over the years, there are still many aspects of the experience that are realm-based. From your history with your guild to your interactions with the economy around you, a realm with a healthy population provides more opportunities, and it’s been several years since we last connected some realms," we read.
The changes will be made during scheduled technical breaks, so the players should not lose access to Azeroth for longer. Decisions as to which servers will be shut down will be made after an in-depth analysis of their population. The official forums of each Realm will also be connected.
"As this project unfolds, we will post notices in advance of each week’s connections in the appropriate regions and languages. During each maintenance period, everything will be automatically combined for the affected realms. When maintenance is complete, players on affected realms will log into Battle for Azeroth and find that they’re now part of a larger connected-realm community. At the same time, we’ll merge the appropriate realm discussion forums," reads the message.
It is worth reminding that the eighth expansion to World of Warcraft - Shadowlands - should make its debut during this holiday season (exact release date is not known).
