Worlds Part 2 in NMS brings a bumpy sorting feature that could risk losing your precious items
We all appreciate that Hello Games still cares about No Man’s Sky players, but the new Worlds Part 2 update didn’t quite nail the introduction of the sort button.

No Man’s Sky just received a major update, and o mighty Atlas, it’s another big one! Worlds Part 2 brings a wealth of new content, additional planetary variations, an entirely new story, and soon, a new Expedition will kick-off, with The Wraith ship as the main reward. Like with every big update, there are also changes and new features. This time, Hello Games has introduced sorting options for our items, but let’s just say… it might be a little buggy right now. So, proceed with caution!
Sorting trouble in No Man’s Sky
Update 5.5 to NMS added some inventory organization options. Now, with a single button press, we can sort our items by name, type, value, or color. Plus, duplicate stacks will automatically merge for a tidier setup. Sounds handy, but for some players, the reality might not work as smoothly as expected.
Youtuber Jason Plays streamed NMS Worlds Part 2 after it dropped, checking out the new content and giving the inventory sorting a shot. He wasn’t too thrilled with how it organized his items, but the real shock came when he tried auto-arranging his tech, only to realize half of it was just gone. When he said, “Where did my other ones go?” and then went completely silent, we all felt that. Pure horror.
At first, I thought it was just a one-off thing, but it turns out, while not everyone’s affected, others have said it happened to them too. Sure, you can reload your save, but if you don’t notice it in time, you either lose the items for good or have to go back to an older save. Some of us rely on quick saves, but a lot of people just trust autosave.
So, if you use the sorting button, lose half of your items, then hop in or out of your ship without making a manual save, yeah, you're screwed. Let’s hope Hello Games will sort this bug (pun intended) quickly.
I haven’t even tried this feature yet, and I don’t think I will. We all have our own way of organizing our inventory, and while arranging by type might seem like a good idea, it probably won’t work for everyone.
I’m guessing they’re using NMS to test out some improvements for Light No Fire. It gives them extra practice with the tech, so hopefully, LNF will be way more polished and balanced when it finally releases.
