Big Changes Coming to World War 3
World War 3 is still alive. The FPS hasn't returned to Steam yet, but the devs at The Farm 51 published new gameplay footage and announced big changes.
- The Farm 51 confirmed that it is still working on the development of World War 3;
- The new gameplay footage briefly discusses the numerous changes planned by the developers;
- The company has modified maps, movement system, shooting, customization (including equipment during battle), vehicles and much more.
Although World War 3 still hasn't officially launched, many have written off the game long ago. After all, when a game hits Steam's Early Access, quickly loses players, and is pulled from sale after less than two years, it's hard to read it as anything but the devs throwing in the towel. Admittedly, officially the disappearance of WW3 from Steam was due to the pressure of a new publisher - MY.com - and the desire to thoroughly rebuild the project, but it's hardly surprising that after many similar situations fans were not willing to believe such assurances. At least until the developers started the "countdown" and not much later published a sizable video dedicated to the title. The team at Farm 51 has just shared extensive material discussing the changes in World War 3 which they were working on for many months. It also confirmed that work on the game is in full swing.
The material, which lasts about 5 minutes, does not dwell too much on the individual innovations, but it gives an idea that there are many of them. The company has significantly modified the maps available in the game, albeit while retaining the actual geography of individual cities. This approach - referred to by the developers as "playable realism" - has become the team's major guiding principle. World War 3 is to be faithful to reality, but not at the expense of gameplay.
We've heard similar assurances from other developers, but how exactly does it translate to the game? In addition to maps, the devs have rebuilt the interface, movement system (including adding the function of double sprint), and vehicles (including their visual destruction). The same applies to the shooting mechanics and a new backpack system that enables us to modify our equipment on the fly, such as adding or removing scopes (which have also been "adapted to modern military standards").
The Farm 51 also confirmed that the game will feature new equipment such as new types of grenades. The developers promise that these are not all the changes, and we should hear about more soon. Unfortunately, the most important information was missing. We still don't know when exactly World War 3 will return on Steam. We can believe that here, too, the keyword is "soon", but it would be nice to get a confirmation from either the studio or the publisher.
