World-building in Action RPG Accodring to Enshrouded
Ever wondered what the behind-the-scenes of game development looks like? An insight into this painstaking yet fascinating process has been provided by the developers of the upcoming action RPG Enshrouded.
Keen Games released a video in which it shows the behind-the-scenes of world creation in Enshrouded, an upcoming action RPG that will debut in early access on Steam on January 24, 2024..
The video shows how the developers combine the procedural world generation technique with their own detailing. This enables them not only to give the game a "human-like character", but also to save time by using ready-made models based on voxels.
Using the example of a wall surrounding a rock, the developers showed how the geometry adapts to the superimposed elements. An interesting fact is that by duplicating one element, such as a house, its copies will differ from each other, so the developers avoid repetitive objects.
It is also extremely simple to create roads. All you have to do is to mark a path from the so-called "splines" on the ready-made terrain, and the program will generate the road itself, adapted to the ground and the environment.
Enshrouded - a handful of information
Since the matter of the behind-the-scenes of Enshrouded is settled, let's devote a few words to introducing the game itself. The action RPG by Keen Games combines elements of survival, crafting and a dynamic combat system (anybody else is reminded of Valheim?).
The game will offer great building freedom thanks to the use of voxels and the terramorphing mechanism, enabling us to construct any structure on the surface and underground.
During our travels through the fantasy land called Embervale we will encounter many characters who will help us with the creation of various items. The mechanics of farming will also make sure that we are not bored.
The richness offered by Enshrouded was appreciated during the recent Steam Next Fest, where the demo of Keen Games' work was the most played title. The popularity of the action RPG was not even affected by problems with poor optimization.
