Witchfire - What About the Game From The Astronauts?

Adrian Chmielarz from The Astronauts has published another blog note devoted to the progress of work on the shooter Witchfire. Unfortunately, we still don't know when the game will launch.

Witchfire promises to be interesting, but when will we play it?

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Witchfire is still being developed - the creators have long defined the general shape of the project, and now they are laboriously creating its subsequent elements;
  2. Unfortunately, at this stage the developers are unable to say when the game will be finished.

Polish studio The Astronauts - responsible for the successful The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and led by well-known developer Adrian Chmielarz - published a note informing about the progress of their next project, i.e. FPS Witchfire. Unfortunately, we don't have good news for those who were hoping for an imminent release of the game - the work is progressing, but the developers are still unable to say when it will be finished.

"But, as I said, with our resources, it’s still an unknown number of seasons before the game is ready. We’re doing the best we can, though!," Chmielarz concludes the note.

The concept of the game was defined a long time ago, and the developers know exactly what is to be included in it. All that remains is to create and implement all the planned stuff and mechanics - unfortunately, for a small, eight-person team this is an extremely tedious process. Recently, the developers have, among other things, added a new location and type of opponent to the game (below a couple of screenshots), and also improved the animations. However, there is still a lot of work ahead of them.

"For quite a while now we know exactly what the game is. Sure, some solutions may change, but we know the general direction and what makes Witchfire fun. The development does not feel like prototyping and soul searching anymore, for quite some time now we’re just making the game.

Now it’s just the question of how much of the game a team of eight can do in a day… Not a lot on the surface level, and a lot if you consider the level of difficulty of making a modern 3D shooter," we read.

In short, Witchfire is still being developed and it's doing pretty well, but it might take some time before we launch The Astronauts' new work on our computers.
