Windows 10 Will Warn of SSD Malfunction
In the next major update, Windows 10 will receive a tool that will enable the users to monitor the status of their SSDs and determine their expected time of operation.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Windows 10 will receive an SSD monitoring tool that will inform us if it detects a problem;
- We will also be able to use this function manually - the program will monitor the temperature and show the expected life expectancy of the media.
Microsoft announced in a blog note that Windows 10 will soon receive a new, useful feature - a tool that will keep us informed about the status of NVMe SSDs and possible problems with them. If an issue is detected, we will receive a message in the notification area.
We will also be able to use the tool manually by selecting "System" in the settings, then "Storage" and "Manage disks and volumes". In the menu we will see the expected operating time of our disk (expressed as a percentage), its temperature and possibly error messages. We will also be able to use the "Back up now" option to prepare a backup right away.
The novelty has been released in Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 20226, which means that it will most likely appear in the next major update. We can also expect some other changes - such as disabling desktop composition synchronization between devices, patching our phone apps or allowing Notepad to keep the contents of an open file after rebooting.
