Will Nvidia Compete With Itself and Make RTX 2080 Ti Super After All?
With the latest update to the popular AIDA64 tool, information about a new GPU, which may turn out to be RTX 2080 Ti Super, has appeared. However, the available data is ambiguous and we might yet learn that a refreshed version of the Titan RTX or a Quadro RTX model is in the pipeline.
Looking at the GPU market, it is difficult to find competition for the RTX 2080 Ti at this point. But Nvidia is working on something new. Will it be a RTX 2080 Ti Super? Or maybe a refreshed version of the Titan or Quadro card? Each of the options is probable.
Little is known
Tom's Hardware has noted that in the change log of the popular benchmark and diagnostic application - AIDA64 - there has been an unannounced Nvidia GeForce RTX T10-8 graphics card, which does not contain much information, but will be based on the TU102 chip that is currently being used in the most expensive models of the manufacturer - the RTX 2080 Ti, Titan RTX, Quadro RTX 8000 and Quadro RTX 6000.
If it is not the Super version of RTX 2080 Ti, it could be for example the Black edition of the Titan RTX. Nvidia has already taken a similar step with the launch of Titan Black GTX in 2014. It is therefore possible that the RTX incarnation of this model will receive higher clocks or more memory in the Black edition.
This does not change the fact that the RTX 2080 Ti Super is equally likely to be an option and could settle in the performance range between a standard RTX 2080 Ti and a Titan RTX. If this happens, hopefully the performance difference will be greater than between the RTX 2080 and the RTX 2080 Super.
Earlier this month, AMD CEO Lisa Su confirmed that new top-of-the-line Navi chipsets are in the pipeline, which, once released on the market, could threaten the domination of the RTX 2080 Ti. Nvidia may therefore want to anticipate rivals' actions and take the next step forward in performance.
