Will Bulletstorm drop Games for Windows LIVE? People Can Fly CEO comments on the matter
Since Bulletstorm is still tied to Microsoft's Games for Windows LIVE service, many players experience connection issues. People Can Fly is aware of the problem, but things are not as easy as they may seem.
Bulletstorm is one of those well-received games that actually failed to make money for themselves. What makes things even worse for the title is that it is still tied to Games for Windows LIVE – although Microsoft’s online servise is not dead yet as it was expected, it is also far from working smoothly. Shutting down EA Partners program additionally made it hard for the game to get enough support. Many titles that used to work with GFWL have since moved to Steamworks, but not Bulletstorm. We asked the CEO at People Can Fly if there is any chance the game will drop GFWL any time soon. In reply he said:
The contract with EA is exactly the reason why it's difficult for us to change things, but we are aware of the situation and we would like to do something about it. For now, I have to keep the details under wraps. We'll see how things work out.
Note that many of the negative Steam user reviews of Bulletstorm relate to the game’s connection to GFWL. Players feel frustrated about the problems with logging in to the service and the waste of time it causes. Seems that the smartest move for Bulletstorm developer would be to drop GFWL completely. Unfortunately, that decision is not only theirs to make. We hope that People Can Fly can find an acceptable solution for this problem soon.
