Why Did Ahsoka Believe Anakin Died Due to Order 66?

For many years, Ahsoka believed that her master Anakin Skywalker was killed during Order 66 issued by the councellor-soon-to-be-emperor Palpatine. This topic was personally raised by Dave Filoni in an interview with George Lucas.

Anakin Skywalker, Ahsoka's former master, survived the Jedi purge because he himself helped implement it, but his padawan was unaware of it for a very long time. Disney's show centered on the aforementioned heroine reveals that the truth, which was finally discovered, weighed heavily on Tano, and she was afraid of following in Anakin's footsteps. During a 2016 interview, Dave Filoni revealed why Ahsoka didn't realize that Skywalker had survived (vide Star Wars):

"This is an issue that George and I discussed. When Order 66 was issued, Ahsoka manages to survive. Then, through the Force, she tries to sense Anakin's presence. She has always been able to do this, no matter where she was in the galaxy. It doesn't work like a metal detector and she wasn't able to recognize exactly where he was, but she could sense that her friend was alive and safe. Only after Order 66, this was not possible. She found nothing and therefore thought he had died."

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars Maul revealed to Ahsoka that Anakin had fallen to the Dark side of the Force, but she refused to believe it. It was only during the Empire's reign that she discovered it was true and confronted her former master. Darth Vader's words just before the duel may have been Ahsoka's answer to why she didn't sense Anakin after Order 66.

Darth Vader said that he destroyed Skywalker because he was weak. The Sith repeated these words to many people he knew in the past. The fallen Jedi separated himself into two different personalities, which could be reflected in the Force. Anakin Skywalker could not be sensed, but instead there was the presence of Darth Vader. For many, it was still Anakin, but the Sith did its best to keep his past life completely separate.

Ahsoka concluded that Skywalker was dead because, reaching out to the Force, she was unable to find him. This just goes to show how effective Darth Vader was in his actions. The truth shook Ahsoka's confidence, and only by confronting her former master's past did the character find the balance she needed to continue her mission.
