Where to Find Ancient Cog in Octopath Traveler 2

Inventor is the first of four secret jobs you can obtain in Octopath Traveler 2. In order to unlock Inventor’s skills, instead of using Job Points, you need to gather hidden items to complete inventions. One of those items is Ancient Cog, which may be tricky to find for players. In this guide, you will learn the location and requirements for finding it.

Inventor – how to unlock the job

In order to become an Inventor, you must finish the first chapter of the game’s story and talk to the NPC Arkar.

To find Arkar:

1. Head south to Eastern New Delsta Highroad,
2. Find a lake,
3. Head north along the path next to the lake until you reach a bridge,
4. Cross the bridge and find a large wooden house, where Arkar resides,
5. Listen to Arkar’s explanation to unlock the Inventor job and its starting abilities.

Ancient Cog in Octopath Traveler 2 – how to find

Ancient Cog is one of the items required to unlock the skill Anker’s Coil. The other items needed for the skill are:

1. Scrap Metal –obtained from a Factory Worker standing in front of the house down from the Factory in the Industrial Disctrict of Clockbank,
2. Natural Magnetite – in a Unfinished Tunnel in the Southern Crackridge Wilds, after fighting an Overseer blocking entry. Follow a winding path through the mine to find a red chest.

Out of the three, Ancient Cog can be difficult to find because it is unobtainable at some times. In order to get it:

1. Go to Rouge Island,
2. Locate the house near the Tavern, down the steps,

1. Change the time to night – you won’t find the NPC holding the Ancient Cog during the day,
2. Go inside and find the Factory Worker with a brown ponytail, standing next to the table,

1. Use a Path Action that allows you to steal items – Entreat with Agnea or Mug with Osvald –on the NPC to get Ancient Cog.
