“We Were Sort of All Exhausted by It.” Zach Braff Revealed That the Cast of Scrubs Felt Burned Out During the Filming of the Final Season
The TV series' cast had had enough of Scrubs after nine seasons. By the end they were exhausted by the sitcom.
Scrubs was a hit sitcom that not only entertained, but was also considered one of the most realistic TV series about doctors. Not surprisingly, it remained on the air for nine years, which translated into as many as nine seasons.
While it's not a record length, there have been and continue to be longer series aired on TV (including medical), this TV show went on for a long time anyway, and it turns out that towards the end it began to tire the actors in it, who were burned out during the filming of the final season. Zach Braff talked about this during the Inside of You program (via Variety).
By the time nine years were over, we were sort of all exhausted by it. I felt like, at the time, we were starting to repeat jokes. Everyone was pretty fried. [...] We would do insane hours that people don’t even do anymore. We didn’t really have much of a life outside of it.
So after nine years, it was high time for the Scrubs TV series to end. Continuing it when the cast was no longer feeling the production could backfire on the quality for which this sitcom has always been praised.
But there is a chance that Scrubs will return after a dozen years. The sitcom's creator, Bill Lawrence, has been saying for some time that there are chances to prepare something special for fans. Also interested in the return is the cast, who apparently, after having had many years to take a break from their roles on the TV series, are ready to once again appear in the hospital and bring smiles to the faces of viewers in front of their TV sets.
