- Watch Dogs: Legion will offer native 4K resolution only on PC.
- Information was provided by Beyond 3D users, who analyzed the available videos.
- There are many indications that Assassin's Creed: Valhalla will also have problems with maintaining native 4K on consoles.
Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion run in native 4K only on PC. The console versions offer dynamic resolution from 1440p and up to 4K, depending on the game. This information appeared after analysis on Beyond3D.
A few days ago, Ubisoft reported that their upcoming games will work on next-gen consoles in 4K and in 30 or 60 fps, depending on the game. In the case of the two discussed titles it was to be 4K / 60 fps and 4K / 30 fps respectively.
It turns out, that yes, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla and Watch Dogs: Legion will achieve 4K resolution, but using the dynamic scaling option. Beyond3D users have calculated from the Xbox X Series videos that the new Watch Dogs runs as standard at 1440p and only reaches native 4K at selected moments. Due to similar architecture of PS5 and Xbox Series X, we can assume that the version on Sony console will work similarly.
The new Assassin will probably offer dynamic resolution, as reported (but quickly denied) by Ubisoft. Shortly after that, the dynamic resolution information on PS5 has reappeared, but was denied again. So it remains to wait for the release of Sony's console and independent tests to take a closer look at the new games.
When we look at the problems with runing Watch Dogs: Legion in 4K and ray-tracing enabled on modern PCs, it shouldn't come as a surprise that consoles weaker than PC will only offer 30 fps. To enjoy 4K / 60 fps we need to have at least a GeForce RTX 3080, a GPU that costs twice the price of next-gen consoles.
