Warno is the New RTS From Wargame Devs; Early Access Launch in January
Eugen Systems has announced a new project - the strategy game Warno, intended to be a spiritual heir to the Wargame series. This time we will face the escalating Cold War, which will turn into World War III between the forces of NATO and the Warsaw Pact.
If you miss real-time strategy games like the memorable R.U.S.E. or the Wargame series, I have good news for you. Eugen Systems, responsible for these titles, has announced a new game. It will be another RTS, even described as a spiritual heir of the aforementioned titles - Warno. The first trailer, released today, is available below.
Developers are going to make Warno available on Steam as part of Early Access on January 20, 2022. The imminent launch of the game prompted them to reveal a lot of information about it. First of all, we learned that we'll have to show a sense of strategy in the face of a fictional World War III, which was led to by the escalation of the Cold War conflict.
NATO and Warsaw Pact forces will clash in it. In battles, we'll lead "hundreds of units" - from Spetsnaz conscripts, through battle tanks, to helicopters and attack planes. Each of them - traditionally for the genre - will have its unique strengths and weaknesses.
A real treat for strategy fans may turn out to be the "huge, turn-based campaigns" in which we, as a general, will lead troops in fictional "what if" scenarios. But the real attraction seems to be the multiplayer mode, which will enable us to take part in 1-on-1 battles, as well as co-op for up to 10 players (or 10 vs 10 combat). Lovers of competition will certainly be pleased to know that the multiplayer also includes ranked skirmishes.
At the start, Warno will offer only two factions - the United States and the Soviet Union. However, the developers are planning regular updates which will add new mechanics and content such as units, scenarios and campaigns.
