Wallpaper Freezes Android Phones
Users of Android phones came across an image, which - after being set as a wallpaper - crashes the smartphone. Everything indicates that the cause is a bug associated with the color palette.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Users of Android smartphones came across an image that leads to the phone crashing if we set it as a wallpaper;
- The bug is most likely related to the color palette - a way to prevent the freeze from happening is to convert the image to sRGB format.
Users of Android phones have discovered an image, which - after being set as wallpaper - freezes the smartphone (technically, the device still works, but it turns the screen on and off over and over again). The only way out of this situation is to enter Safe Mode and delete the picture or reset the phone completely.
The bug concerns some smartphones from companies such as Samsung, Google, OnePlus or Xiaomi. The bizarre crash is most likely related to colors - Android uses the sRGB palette, while the image uses RGB. One of the colors used in it is apparently not compatible with the color profile created by Google - once converted to sRGB, the image stops causing problems.
There are fears that the appearance of the error will provoke some people to make subsequent pictures that cause a similar effect. Just in case, we advise to refrain from installing wallpapers on your phones, or be extremely cautious in this regard (downloading them only from known sources or preventively converting them to sRGB format).
