Valve Looks For Psychologist to Help Make More Games Like Half-Life: Alyx

A qualified psychologist urgently wanted at Valve! Among other things, to lend his/her expertise in the creation of even deeper next-gen gaming experiences.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • if you're a video game-loving psychologist, it's quite possible that Valve is looking for you;
  • The position requires a person who will help create new games for the company, as well as analyze the market and player behavior.

Valve is looking for someone for the position of (research/experimental) psychologist to help create even more complex and valuable virtual experiences. The psychologist's task will be, among other things, to analyze player habits, as well as to gain more knowledge about their frequent behaviors in front of the screen. This sounds at least like a fragment of George Orwell's 1984 , but from a consumer's perspective there is nothing to fear. This kind of research can only do us good.

This isn't the first time Valve is looking for a qualified psychologist. This company policy has continued for a good few years now, and we could see a similar announcement in February 2020 (VG247 informed about it) - at that time someone with experience in economics was also very much in demand.

And why should we be interested in this fact at all? Because it means even more immersive gaming experiences - most probably connected with virtual reality (in this particular case with the Valve Index set). Already during the development of Half-Life: Alyx we were shown what VR can impress with and how much it can stimulate our senses. Who knows - maybe one of you has the skills required by Valve. Just in case, we would like to remind that you can find the full announcement here.

His adventure with journalism began with a personal blog, the name of which is no longer worth quoting. Then he interpreted Iranian dramas and the Joker, writing for cinematography journal, which, sadly, no longer exists. His writing credentials include a degree in film studies, but his thesis was strictly devoted to video games. He has been writing for Gamepressure since March 2020, first writing a lot about movies, then in the newsroom, and eventually, he became a specialist in everything. He currently edits and writes articles and features. A long-time enthusiast of the most bizarre indie games and arthouse cinema. He idolizes surrealism and postmodernism. He appreciates the power of absurdity. Which is probably why he also tried soccer refereeing for 2 years (with so-so results). He tends to over-philosophize, so watch out.
