Ubisoft's Iconic Series Set to Return, but Without a Screen Adaptation. The Company Is „Actively Working on Other Exciting Projects” Related to Driver Series

Fans of the Driver series have to swallow a bitter pill. It turns out that the cooperation between Ubisoft and the Binge streaming platform announced in 2021, which was to result in a live-action adaptation of this cult series, has ended. The information was first reported by the service Game File (via VGC).

We are no longer moving forward with our partnership with Binge for a Driver series -- announced a spokesman for the French company.

The journalist of the mentioned website, Stephen Totilo, claims that the reason for ending the cooperation between the two companies is the closure of the Binge platform.

A consolation for disappointed fans, however, may be that Ubisoft still has high hopes for the popular brand. A corporate representative said the company is "actively" working on "other exciting franchise projects" and looks forward to "sharing more information in the future." Perhaps this means that in some time we will see not a serial adaptation, but a full-fledged game.

Let's remind that the last major installment of the series started in 1999 is Driver: San Francisco. Ubisoft's game was released in 2011 and was met with a positive reception, both from industry reviewers and players themselves. On the Metacritic website, the average rating from these first ones is 80/100 (based on 63 reviews). The community rating is 8.2/10 on average.
