Ubisoft Shuts Down Servers of Popular Games
Ubisoft unveiled a list of twelve games whose servers and online features will be shut down this year. The list includeds games like The Settlers 7, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and Anno 1404.
Ubisoft, like many other publishers and developers, regularly shuts down the servers of many of its older games, both on consoles and PC. As usual in such cases, there are purely economic reasons behind the decision. The player base in the titles destined to be shut down simply is not large enough to cover the costs associated with their further support. The French company presented a list of twelve titles that will lose access to network functions this year.
The games listed by the company will no longer be able to connect to Ubisoft Connect servers and unlock additional content purchased with points earned during the game. In titles that support multiplayer, it will be disabled. The players will be forced to play alone. This also means that they will lose access to online stats and rankings. In addition, it will also be impossible to purchase virtual currency. If you still have it assigned to your account in supported games, it should be spent within 60 days.
Servers of the first eight games from the list will be shut down on June 1. In the next listed games, it will happen at a yet unspecified date later this year.

It's been several years since the release of some of these titles. Fortunately, many of them are single-player only, so the server shut down will have a minimal impact on the overall experience. Ubisoft's decision will certainly affect the fans of multiplayer tactical game from the Tom Clancy's franchise, especially the Vegas series, which at one time enjoyed considerable popularity. Life abhors a vacuum and the biggest fans in such cases prepare patches enabling the game to be played on their own servers.
