Ubisoft Will Brand Its Own Games as „Ubisoft Originals”
Ubisoft has decided that all productions belonging to its biggest brands and developed by in-house studios will be marked as „Ubisoft Original”. The name has already appeared with last week's announcement of Tom Clancy's The Division: Heartland.
Last week, Ubisoft announced Heartland - a free-to-play game, which will expand the universe introduced by the Tom Clancy's The Division series. The game's promotional artwork featured the inscription "A Ubisoft Original", located just below the title. It intrigued the editors of Eurogamer, who decided to ask the representatives of the French company, whether such a term was used only once, or whether we will be able to see it more often. Here is the answer they received:
"Moving forward the 'Ubisoft Original' mention is attached to all of Ubisoft's games created in-house by our talented developers."
So it seems that Ubisoft does not want to leave any doubt at to who owns franchises such as Assassin's Creed and Far Cry and intends to emphasize it at every step. The question is whether the term will actually catch on and stay with us for longer, or whether the French will relatively quickly abandon it.
