Ubisoft Explains Its Cross-progression System
Ubisoft has clarified doubts about the cross-progression system, which allows for transferring progress in the game between different hardware platforms.
- Saves,
- Currency acquired through gameplay,
- Equipment, except for items from add-ons, if we don't have these DLCs on the other platform,
- Items bought for Helix.
A few weeks ago, Ubisoft Connect service was launched, replacing Uplay and Ubisoft Club. One of the most interesting elements of the new service is the cross-progression function, which enables us to transfer our progress between different platforms. Until now, it was not entirely clear what are the limitations of this solution, so it is worth noting the recently published FAQ, which dispels all doubts.
Such features are not something new, but so far they have been mainly used in multiplayer games. In case of Ubisoft Connect, cross-progression is also available in games designed mainly for single player, such as Watch Dogs: Legion, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla or the upcoming Immortals: Fenyx Rising. Players can transfer their progress between all platforms, on which they own the title.
The situation gets more complicated with DLCs. If our character has, for example, an item that is only available in an expansion, we will not be bale to use it in another version of the game if we do not have this DLC on the latter hardware platform.
Within one console family, the purchase of expansions will most often be transferred from one generation to another, such as from Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S and from PlayStation 4 to PS5. However, purchasing a DLC for XONE will not provide access to it on PlayStation 5, nor will PC version owners unlock access to add-ons on consoles. In this case, an item that is only available in the DLC will be removed from the character's inventory on the other platform. However, it will not disappear and will be recovered when we return to play on the system where we have the add-on.
The Helix virtual currency works similarly. It is only shared within one console family. Interestingly, this restriction will not apply to items purchased with it. So if we use Helix points to buy e.g. armor on PC, it will be unlocked on all other hardware platforms.
