Turn-based Folklore RPG Black Legend Launches

Black Legend, a unusual turn-based fantasy RPG from the independent studio Warcave debuts on the market today.

BLACK LEGEND IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Developer: Warcave
  2. Publisher: Warcave
  3. Genre: RPG
  4. Platforms: PC, PS4, XONE, Switch

Today marks the release of Black Legend, a turn-based fantasy RPG inspired by 17th century folklore. The game was developed and published by Warcave, an independent studio known for Warparty.

Black Legend is now available for purchase on PS4 (on PlayStation Store). Later on, the game will be unlocked on Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and Steam. for $29.99. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S owners can also play the title thanks to backward compatibility.

So far there are only a few reviews available online and unfortunately they are not very positive. The PS4 release currently has an average rating of 54% on Metacritic. The other hardware platforms have not enough marks. However, it is interesting to note that both the reviews of the PC and Xbox One editions are significantly more positive than on PlayStation 4.

Selected reviews of Black Legend:

  1. GameWatcher - 7.5/10 (PC)
  2. TheXboxHub - 3.5/5 (Xbox One)
  3. XboxAddict - 70%. (Xbox One)
  4. Video Chums - 6.5/10 (PlayStation 4)
  5. IGN France - 5/10 (PlayStation 4)
  6. TheSixthAxis- 5/10 (PlayStation 4)
  7. TheGamer - 2.5/5 (PlayStation 4)

Most reviews praise the atmosphere and combat mechanics. Criticism focuses on the storyline, the repetitive nature of the tasks and below average technical condition, but the latter problem is mainly mentioned by editors who have played on PS4. So it's hard to judge whether this is a general shortcoming of the game, or whether it's just something wrong with the PlayStation 4 release.
