- Total War Saga: Troy will debut on Steam;
- The Mythos expansion pack will be released on Epic Games Store and Steam;
- An update will be released, bringing a free realistic story mode to the game.
Creative Assembly and Sega have announced the release date for Total War Saga: Troy on Steam. The strategy game will debut on Steam on September 2, this year.
Recall that the game was released last August, but only on Epic Games Store. This exclusive deal was highly unusual, because for the first 24 hours after the release, Total War Saga: Troy could be obtained for free. The deal proved to be very successful and 7.5 million players took advantage of it.
Commenting on the deal last year, Creative Assembly said that it was a one-off and there were no further exclusives planned for Epic Games Store. The goal of the special offer was to reach out to new users and it seems to have succeeded. In addition, a lot of people who took advantage of the opportunity, later bought expansions to the game, so the developers probably got what they wanted.
Those wishing to play Total War Saga: Troy on Steam will have to buy the game, so we are curious to see what sales results it will get. There will no option to transfer a copy between sstores. Instead, cross-play between them will be available.
Mythos expansion - even more mythology
Simultaneously with the game's release on Steam the Mythos expansion will debut - the biggest expansion for the game so far. The DLC will introduce a new campaign mode featuring divine powers, mythical beasts and related tasks. Players will be able to recruit Hydra, Cerberus and Griffin to their armies. These creatures have special abilities and will be accompanied by legions of followers.
In the basic version of the game there were elements inspired by mythology, but implemented in a partially realistic way (e.g. troops called Harpies, consisting of human female warriors). With the Mythos expansion they will be transformed into their fully fantastic variants. The system of divine interventions will also be expanded, allowing us, for example, to cast Zeus' lightning bolts at enemies.
Free story mode
Creative Assembly is also preparing something for fans who are not interested in all these fantastic elements. Along with the release of Mythos there will be an update to the basic version of Total War Saga: Troy, which will offer, for free, a new story mode that will remove all mythological and unrealistic aspects from the base game, including super units. Battles will be fought by generals and their advance guards, who will replace one-man armies with divine power.
In total, players will be able to use three modes - fantasy, historical and Truth Behind The Myth, the latter available from the launch and lying somewhere in between the other two.
