Classic Tomb Raider Never Looked so Good (and Demanded so Much)
The original Tomb Raider was a game whose visuals have aged badly, but thanks to Nvidia's tool, the angular models now look truly insane.
Released in 1996, the classis Tomb Raider delighted with the use of innovative, for the time, 3D technology, but the passage of years and the development of CGI have hit Lara Croft's angular face hard.
Fortunately, there are tools on the market to breathe new life into a venerable classic, even one that is 27 years old. We are talking about RTX Remix technology, among others.
The youtube channel Dominus Aurate recently published a video showing the visual transformation of the original Tomb Raider using Nvidia's tool.
Admittedly, the modification doesn't change anything in the textures, which are still pixelated (this should be remedied in the future by the RTX Remix Creator Tool), but patch tracing makes the game look amazing - it improves the atmosphere and makes us want a remake of Lara Croft's first adventure even more.
As I'm sure you've noticed, the difference compared to the original is colossal and serves as a reference for what a remake using path tracing can produce. Unfortunately, a game of this type would have very high requirements due to how "hardware-intensive" it is.
Recall that a few months ago the first Half-Life from 1998 saw a similar transformation. The modification, which introduced real-time ray tracing technology into Valve's production, was able to defeat even top PC components, led by the GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card.
