CD Projekt Announced Remake of The Witcher 1
Project Canis Majoris is a remake of the first Witcher game, which will be developed on Unreal Engine 5.
CD Projekt RED decided to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of its most important brand. The first Witcher game will receive remake on Unreal Engine 5. In other words, the developer will recreate its debut title from scratch.
As revealed in an announcement on the the brand's official website, the refresh of the first part of the series is codenamed Canis Majoris - one of three Witcher initiatives by CD Projekt revealed earlier this month. At the time, it was only stated that it would be a full-fledged installment of the series with a single-player story campaign.
Today's announcements from CD Projekt Group don't reveal much more. "The third-party studio responsible for the remake will be Fool's Theory. The developer has two RPGs to its credit (Seven and the currently developed Vitriol), and includes people who have worked on, among others, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (including Jakub Rokosz, formerly a senior task designer at CD Projekt RED).
It was also confirmed that the project is at an early stage of work, and asked fans to be patient. CD Projekt RED is closely monitoring work on the game, and some time ago assured that it intends to conduct more meticulous testing of its titles, having learned from the unpleasant experience with Cyberpunk 2077.
