New Names in The Witcher Prequel Cast; Director Revealed
Netflix continues to squeeze The Witcher universe for content. As we've known for some time, there will be a prequel for the TV show. Now we get more information about the team involved in The Witcher: Blood Origin.
We go to know another ten names from the cast of the prequel to Netflix's The Witcher, subtitled Blood Origin. It is also known that the new production of the streaming giant will be directed by Sarah O'Gorman and Vicky Jewson. The first one's credits include Cursed and Fallen Kingdom, while the latter is known for her work on Close and Born of War. Here is the full list of new names involved in The Witcher prequel project:
- Mirren Mack as Merwyn,
- Lenny Henry as Balor,
- Jacob Collins Levy as Eredin,
- Lizzie Annis as Zacaré,
- Huw Novelli as Callan,
- Francesca Mills as Meldof,
- Amy Murray as Fenrik,
- Nathaniel Curtis as Brían,
- Zach Wyatt as Syndril,
- Dylan Moran as Uthrok One-Nut.
It is worth noting that Eredin, the main antagonist of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, appears among the characters. Rumors about his appearance appeared earlier, but now they have been confirmed. Let's hope that the scriptwriters will manage to make him a bit more spunky than in CD Projekt Red's hit game.
The Witcher: Blood Origin will consist of six episodes that will present a story set 1,200 years before the events known to fans from Andrzej Sapkowski's books. We will see how the conjunction of the spheres happened, making the worlds of humans, elves and monsters intermingle. It is thanks to the conjunction that the world of The Witcher has aquired magic. In Blood Origin we will also get to meet the first witcher ever created.
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich and Declan de Barra, who is also the showrunner of the series, are responsible for the title as executive producers. Tomek Baginski and Jarek Sawko of Platige Films and Jason Brown and Sean Daniel of Hivemind are executive producers. The creative consultant of Blood Origin is - of course - Andrzej Sapkowski.
As for now, it is not known when the series will premiere. Most likely it will not happen before 2022. The Witcher will return on Netflix on December 17, while next week - on August 23 - we'll see the debut of the animated film The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, in which we'll be following the fate of Geralt's mentor Vesemir in his youth.
