The Witcher 4 Worked on by 250 Devs; Phantom Liberty With Good Preorders
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty is already making money for CD Projekt, which is also sending more and more employees to work on the new The Witcher.
CD Projekt Group summarized [in Polish] the first half of 2023 fiscal year. CDP earned revenues of PLN 325.2 million (around $79 million), almost PLN 53 million less than in the similar period one year ago. Net profit exceeded PLN 91 million (around $22 million).
On the occasion of the report, a handful of information on the Polish developer's operations was provided. The Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty DLC is selling brilliantly ahead of its release. No exact figures were provided, but apparently the company is very satisfied with the expansion's performance. Nonetheless, CD Projekt also expects that most preorders will be placed in the final days leading up to the debut of Phantom Liberty.
As for other projects, team working on the fourth The Witcher has expanded to nearly 250 people (as of the end of July 2023). This is an increase from May, when it was reported that about 220 developers have been entrusted with the care of the next major installment in the series.
In addition, Piotr Nielubowicz - the Group's vice president of finance - said that in the first half of the year CD Projekt allocated PLN 160 million (around $39 million) for new projects. Meanwhile, current productions are making money for the company, mainly Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, whose sales in May exceeded 50 million copies.
