The Witcher 4, „little” Elden Ring and new Naughty Dog game trailers boost TGA 2024 popularity
Geoff Keighley released a few impressive statistics for The Game Awards 2024. This year's gala set new records, becoming the most-watched awards in history.
Almost a week has passed since The Game Awards 2024, so it's a good time to summarize the event. The show host, Geoff Keighley, posted several interesting pieces of information on X, which suggest that this year's event was the most watched in history and significantly beat the result of the previous one.
TGA 2024 sets a new viewership record
The Game Awards 2024 achieved a record-breaking total of 154 million live streams globally, defined as a single user starting a stream. This result is 30% higher than last year.
Some time ago, Geoff Keighley also conducted a survey in which the community could rate this year's gala on a scale from D to A. Most, 44.4% of respondents, gave it the highest grade (A), 28.9% gave a grade B, 10.5% a grade C, and 16.1% thought that the event deserves a D or lower. Such positive reactions shouldn't be surprising, as this year's event was full of really big and surprising announcements, like The Witcher 4, Elden Ring: Nightreign, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
I don't know how we will ever top this show, but lots more to come in 2025.
Among other important achievements, Keighley mentioned:
- over 4 million concurrent viewers on Twitch/YouTube, which represents a 10% increase compared to the record from 2023.
- a 10% increase in the use of TGA-related hashtags on X. In total, over 1.59 million posts were shared on it.
- over 112 million votes cast by users, including the "Players' Choice" category.
Let's remind that the Game of the Year title was won by Astro Bot from Team Asobi, which also scooped up the most, as many as 4 trophies. It's also worth noting Swen Vincke's statement, who wasn't hurried by the organizers this time and was able to share some important insights about the entire gaming industry.
