The Witcher 3's Lead Quest Designer Joins Polish Team to Develop Dark RPG
Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, another former employee of CD Projekt Red, has joined the Rebel Wolves studio. The experienced developer will take the position of creative director at the company, which was established two years ago.
The Rebel Wolves was joined by Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, another industry veteran who previously worked at CD Projekt Red on such hits as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077.
- In the new team, Tomaszkiewicz will take the position of creative director and will work on the first AAA game to be released by this Polish company.
- While working at CD Projekt Red, Tomaszkiewicz was the lead quest designer in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and two expansions to this award-winning game. In turn, in Cyberpunk 2077 he focused on directing side missions.
- The developer left the creators of The Witcher in 2021. From January 2022 to December 2023 he worked at Riot Games as lead narrative designer.
"Throughout all the years of working on video games, story-based adventures have always been what I was most passionate about. Nothing can beat the possibility of fully immersing oneself in the world and discovering the created stories and worlds. Currently, there are many fantastic RPGs, but I feel that among players there is also a hunger for more engaging stories. That's why I'm very happy to be able to join many of my old friends and my brother [and brother Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, who after leaving CDPR founded Rebel Wolves - ed. note] and meet new people at Rebel Wolves as a creative director. Our goal is to deliver an RPG that we ourselves would like to play," said Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz.
Additionally, Tomaszkiewicz revealed more information about how he sees his role in his new workplace:
"We want to create a world that you will want to explore, and tell stories that will make you interested in the characters. We want to provide an experience that allows for diverse choices and room for experimentation during the next playthrough. Cooperating on this experience with so many talented people will be my mission at Rebel Wolves and I can't wait for everyone to see what the team has been working on for a long time," Tomaszkiewicz summed up.
As a reminder, the RPG in question is currently in its alpha phase and we'll probably hear more about it later this year. According to recent reports, the title of this project may be Dawnwalker: Origins. However, we must arm ourselves with patience and wait for official news on this matter to be one hundred percent sure.
