The Simpsons Revealed Why Homer Is Still Working at the Power Plant After 35 Years of Madness
One of the biggest mysteries in The Simpsons has been solved. We found out why Homer is still working at the power plant, even though he's the biggest threat there.

Although the crazy adventures of the Simpsons are sometimes hard to predict, for 35 years one thing can always be certain – Homer's job at the nuclear power plant. Homer has repeatedly been fired from it, quit or simply didn't show up for work for a long time, but at the end of the day he has always returned to it to bring even more chaos to the cautious work environment.
And ironically, Homer, who poses the greatest danger there, is the safety inspector. Looking at how many incidents have occurred at Mr. Burnes' power plant, Homer should have been fired from there long ago, but that never happened... at least not definitively. And we finally got a plot reason why Homer is still working at the power plant.
In an episode of Shoddy Heat from the latest 36th season of The Simpsons, we discovered the detective past of Grandpa who, at one stage, was investigating the disappearance of his partner, whom he thought was dead. And when he was close to solving the disappearance of the other private detective, Mr. Burnes came to him with an offer – if Grandpa forgot about the case and didn't try to solve it, Burnes would give his son a job that he would never fire him from, even if he created problems. Grandpa knew that his son would need such a job in the future, so he accepted Burnes' offer.
This explanation, however, leaves some plot holes; after all, Homer has been fired from the power plant many times. So what stopped Grandpa from revealing the truth about his detective partner's disappearance? In the case of The Simpsons, however, one has to turn a blind eye to such plot holes, because with such a long history of the TV series and such a late solution to this mystery, it was obvious that the explanation would not be perfect.
