The Power of Steam in Numbers - SteamDB Analysis
The creators of SteamDB scanned the account IDs on Steam, so that we can, among other things, find out how many fully registered users are on the platform currently. The data also shows the number of currently active profiles or accounts opened in a specific year.
The creators of SteamDB decided to scan more than one billion account IDs on Steam and presented the collected data in a detailed article. From the very beginning they point out that not every ID means a fully registered account. The scanning took place through the ISteamUser website, which allows to check 100 profiles at the same time (which reduced the number of scans made from one billion to "just" 11 million).
From the presented results we can learn first of all that the current number of registered accounts on Steam is just over 667 million (and not - as it was reported last April - 1 billion). Since the beginning of January, this year, 86 million accounts have been active, and since December 2019 - 107 million. Most new users appeared in February, last year (33 million).
It is also worth noting that 2019 was the year in which most accounts in Steam's history were opened (these statistics do not include profiles that have a "private" status). You will find detailed information on this subject in the graphics below. By the way, you can see that there were two accounts created in 2026 and 2027. Interestingly, the last logouts of these users were registered in 2010 and 2007 respectively. Do you think that the creators of SteamDB also confirmed the existence of time travelers?
Let's get some more final statistics. Only 3.2% of users have changed their privacy settings at all. Just over 11 million have a profile set to "private" and 10.7 million to "friends only".
