The Outer Worlds May Get Sequels - as Microsoft Exclusives
Although there are more than two months left before the launch of The Outer Worlds, there are already reports of a potential continuation. The CEO of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, believes that the second part of the production would be a great exclusive title for Microsoft.
The Outer Worlds is a science fiction RPG created by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Private Division. The label is used by Take-Two Interactive to support independent developers. At the end of last year, the creators of the Pillars of Eternity series found themselves in the hands of Microsoft. Thus, the rights to further develop The Outer Worlds franchise have been transferred to the Redmond giant. As it turns out, the company sees a lot of potential in this IP. The head of Xbox Game Studios, Matt Booty, believes that the next installments of the series would be perfect as an exclusive title.
During a conversation with Game Informer journalists, Matt Booty admitted that some titles, such as Minecraft, should be developed from a multi-platform perspective. However, there are also productions that are ideally suited for exclusives. The second category includes The Outer Words.
Yeah, I think it's one of those games. From what we have already seen, I hope that The Outer Worlds is a production that we can expand. It will become a really stable brand and will start to develop accordingly, and we want to help in that.
As you can see Matt Booty does not hide the fact that Microsoft is very interested in The Outer Worlds. He also emphasizes that in the future the franchise may become one of the most important for Xbox.
This decision is not surprising. Two days ago, Phil Spencer from Microsoft announced that the company would place more emphasis on single player games. The use of a new brand, created by a developer famous for its single player titles, seems like a bull's-eye.
The Outer Worlds will debut on October 25, 2019. The game is slated to launch on PC (only in Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Later the title will also be released on Nintendo Switch.
