The Outer Worlds in 4K Only on Xbox One X; PS4 Pro Without Upgrades [Updated]
The Outer Worlds on Xbox One X will have some graphical improvements. Creators do not plan to upgrade the game's visuals on PlayStation 4 Pro.
Update: In a statement sent to us, a Private Division representative explained that the reports from Windows Central are not true. The PlayStation 4 Pro version of The Outer Worlds will work in 1440p resolution scaled to 4K. The additional power of the console will be used.
WindowsCentral reports that the upcoming action RPG from Obsidian Entertainment, The Outer Worlds, will offer graphics enhancements on the Xbox One X. It wouldn't be surprising if it weren't for the fact that developers aren't planning to upgrade the game's graphics on the more powerful model of Sony's console - PlayStation 4 Pro. The source of information is a statement by a representative of the title's publisher, Private Division.
In the vast majority of situations, the creators decide to prepare appropriate patches for both stronger consoles. Exceptions to this rule are rather few, but they do exist - the list includes e.g. We Happy Few, which is not insignificant (see below for more details). Higher resolution on Xbox One X means the title will look much better on this platform, especially in 4K resolution.
It is worth remembering that since November last year Obsidian Entertainment belongs to Microsoft - just like the Compulsion Games responsible for We Happy Few. It's hard to call it an accident - maybe it's the Redmond giant that makes it a condition that the games it's taken over should look as best as possible on its platforms? This is, of course, just a theory that is not backed up by any evidence.
In addition to PS4 and Xbox, One The Outer Worlds will also be released on PC (Epic Games Store and Microsoft Store, and after a year on Steam - the game is also part of the PC Xbox Game Pass). The launch will take place in 9 days - on October 25.
