Disney Dreamlight Valley Devs Unveil Next Big DnD RPG Game
Gameloft studio is working on a Dungeons & Dragons co-op survival game set in the Forgotten Realms universe.
Thanks to the great success of Baldur's Gate 3, the Dungeons & Dragons brand is currently on a roll. The studio known for the game Disney Dreamlight Valley decided to take advantage of this.
- Gameloft is working on a cooperative survival game under the DnD license.
- The gameplay won't be limited to just survival. The fun will also be enriched by RPG and life simulation elements.
- The action will be set in the Forgotten Realms, which is the most popular universe of Dungeons & Dragons, which was also the setting for series such as Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, or Eye of the Beholder.
- We currently have no information about when the game will be released on the market or when its official unveiling is planned.
Disney Dreamlight Valley proved to be a significant success for the Gameloft studio, so we anticipate that the life simulation aspects of this title will inspire similar mechanics in the DnD game by the team, and the action RPG-style combat and robust survival elements will ensure that it is not merely a clone of the team's previous production.
In 2023, Hasbro, the owner of the Dungeons & Dragons brand, made $90 million from a licensing deal that enabled the Larian studio to create Baldur's Gate 3. So it's no wonder that the company is hungry for more of such successes, and its CEO Chris Cocks has assured that the excellent sales of BG3 have opened the door wider for further DnD adaptations.
However, that doesn't mean that everything is going according to plan in Hasbro's digital ambitions. Last year, the company-owned Wizards of the Coast group decided to cancel the Dungeons & Dragons-branded RPG project that Hidden Path Entertainment studio was working on. The devs spent six months attempting to secure a new investor for the game, but ultimately it was unsuccessful, leading to significant layoffs within the team.
