The new Beyond Good & Evil most likely a reboot
Rumor has it that the next Beyond Good & Evil will be a semi-reboot, which will be a re-telling of the original story with some new details on Pey'j's background and a proper conclusion.
Things were getting hot lately around the rumors of a continuation to the early ‘00s classic Beyond Good & Evil. While officially we only know that a next game is in the works, the artwork shared by the series’ father Michel Ancel poured some fuel on fan imagination – especially as one piece of art seemed to hint at a prequel rather than a sequel. According to the latest rumor, however, the game will be neither. LetsPlayVideoGames reported that the upcoming Beyond Good & Evil (no number in the title, probably a subtitle instead) will be a semi-reboot, which will partly retell Jade’s original adventure, give more insight into Pey’j’s background, as well as present a proper ending for the whole story.
The original Beyond Good & Evil ended with a massive cliffhanger, which made players crave for a sequel. After years of waiting a reboot may feel much like a disappointment, provided that the rumors are true. The reasoning behind that decision is reportedly a desire to make the plot understandable for those who have never played the first game (which, despite the cult following that has grown around it since the 2003 release, wasn’t very popular at the time).
However, even more alarming is what LetsPlayVideoGames reports about the new Beyond Good & Evil being a NX exclusive. A new CG trailer is told to be in the works, which is going to be shown alongside Nintendo’s new console reveal. We are hoping that this only means a temporary exclusivity. Last but not least, the game is planned to launch in 2018.
