How Many Seasons Will The Last of Us Have? '4 Seams Like a Good Number'
Craig Mazin, creator of The Last of Us series, surprised fans with information about the possible number of seasons of HBO's production.
The Last of Us TV proved to be quite a success - so no one is surprised by the decision to extend the show. The creators announced that, in order to tell the story of Ellie and Joel, they would need more than one season. While the creation of a second season is confirmed, the creation of a third one has been in question until recently. At the end of May, we informed that HBO producer Francesa Orsi explained that she was unable to guarantee that the third season would be made.
In this context, the latest statement from the show's creator, Craig Mazin, seems to come as quite a surprise, claiming that The Last of Us may be developed to as many as four or five seasons. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the filmmaker revealed that the vision he presented to HBO was for multiple seasons. In an interview with the magazine, he suggested that there would be more than two.
"You never know. It could end up being three or five. But four seems like a good number. A few seasons, because of the story we're telling, will need fewer episodes, and a few more. The best news is that viewers want more. However, we won't succumb to the temptation to make them happy and shoot more episodes when they hear how many episodes have been announced."
Mazin doesn't seem bothered by the earlier statements from HBO's producer, nor does he seem concerned about the budget.
"We always clash with the budget and then discuss why it's not enough. Ever since I've been doing this, I've never, ever been in a situation where I've said: 'I need this much or that much' and heard: 'Okay!'. In the end [we meet in the middle - ed. note], so I'm not worried about it."
How many seasons will the show ultimately end up with? We will still have to wait for the answer to this question. The second confirmed season will probably debut in 2025.
